Charlene the Hoola Queen
After dreaming that she could hoop more than 12 years ago, Charlene (The Hoola Queen) has made it her life mission to bring people together through the power of dance and hooping. A self-taught hooper who couldn’t do it as a child, Charlene has gone on to teach thousands of people how to ‘wind-up’ their waistlines at festivals, events, in the community and at her weekly classes at Stratford Circus. On tour with the Big Dance Bus she led more than 3200 in her Hoop Hop workshops and has even closed Regent Street for a mass hoop jam.
Combining influences from House, Dancehall, Latin and Street Dance with a variety of hoola hoop skills, Charlene has developed her own unique style of hooping called HOOP HOP that is easy to learn when you know how. She has taught it everywhere from Schools and Children’s Centre’s to festivals and events including Lovebox, Secret Garden Party and the Big Dance Bus Tour.
