Waltham Forest was awarded Borough of Culture 2019 and appointed Continental Drifts to programme and managed all street theatre and walkabout performers for their opening event.
Free for the community, Welcome to the Forest opened its doors for 3 days in January 2019. Celebrating Radicals, Makers and Fellowship this neon-lit, celebratory winter carnival was enjoyed by over 60,000 people!
The variety of acts included: interactive musicians such as Das Brass and Rimski’s Bicycle Piano, stilt creatures from Screaming Me Mes, light up performers from Apus Productions, and animatronics by PAKA the Uncredible. The use of walkabout street theatre reflected the culture within Walthamstow and brought to street to life for this beautiful opening event!
